UTD Education Joins UNFPA and 40 Partners for the 16 Days of Activism to End Violence Against Women and Girls in Lao PDR

Vientiane, Lao PDR — 25 November 2024
UTD Education proudly joined UNFPA and more than 40 partner organizations in the annual launch of the 16 Days of Activism to End Violence Against Women and Girls in Lao PDR, held at the iconic Patuxay Monument. The event marked the beginning of a nationwide movement dedicated to raising awareness, promoting prevention, and inspiring collective action to eliminate violence against women and girls.

The campaign was organized in close collaboration with the Government of Lao PDR, the European Union (EU), and KOICA, bringing together government entities, international organizations, civil society, and educational institutions—including UTD Education—under a shared mission of protecting and empowering women and girls across the country.

To symbolize the commitment to ending gender-based violence, the Patuxay Monument was illuminated in orange, the official color of the global campaign. This powerful visual marked the beginning of the 16-day movement and represented hope, solidarity, and a brighter future free from violence.

Held under the global theme “Toward 30 Years of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action: UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls,” the event reaffirmed global and national commitments to gender equality and the elimination of all forms of violence.

A highlight of this year’s campaign was the “Empowerment Runway” fashion show, staged at ASEAN Park in Vientiane Capital. This unique and artistic event conveyed powerful messages through fashion and performance, showcasing the various forms of violence faced by women and girls. The show emphasized themes of inclusivity, equality, and respect, serving as both an emotional and educational experience for attendees.

As one of the campaign partners, UTD Education is honored to stand alongside UNFPA and the broader community in advocating for a safer and more equitable society. UTD remains committed to promoting gender equality, empowering young people through education, and supporting initiatives that protect the rights and well-being of women and girls.
